We researched the Job family tree for a customer who was particularly interested because there was a family rumour that one ancestor had worked alongside Florence Nightingale.
Often a less popular surname makes research easier and this was certainly the case here as we quickly uncovered a string of relatives. The family tree magically fell into place and we tracked back to find that Samuel Job was born in 1828.
Eventually it became evident that because of Samuel’s age and the fact that he was a surgeon in the era of Florence Nightingale it is quite possible to suggest that they worked together, though no proof to that effect has been uncovered…yet.
It is certainly clear that a nephew of Samuel went on to do very well in life, however. Charles Robert Job studied Theology at Cambridge University before becoming Vicar of St. Matthews Church in Sheffield. His career progressed over the years and his penultimate appointment was Vicar of Hampton Hill in Middlesex. He remained there for 21 years and during this period was mixing with many important people including King Edward V11. He lectured all over the world before leaving the post in 1914.
Discovering the history of Charles Robert Job was a very pleasant surprise both for us and his descendents today.
